A while ago I posted about a guide to Moodle that Joyce Seitzinger had created – “Moodle Tool Guide for Teachers“, and I am pleased to say it was well received and gained quite a lot of re-tweets and hits, both on my website and even more importantly on Joyce’s. At the time I said I was working on a version (copy?) for Blackboard and I am pleased to say I have completed the first draft.
I am not as comfortable with Bloom’s Taxonomy as Joyce so therefore have not included the information in the version below, but I hope that with continued time and effort to become familiar with it I can incorporate it into version 2, and any new/updates. This version is intended to be included in a Conference I am hoping to attend later this year so is set at A1 size for printing, but still looks good printed on A3 (hint: A4 is a little too small).

We are trying to get Playing History out around the world, but are running into a few challenges in regard to contents. In Nordic countries there haven’t been any issues with The Plague where we do have corpse stacking and leech therapy with a humoristic angle. We do also have 1-2 references to the fact that historically Jews were blamed for the Plague (like any other bad event in the world pretty much), which is of course historically correct.
The interesting thing is that apparently these things are deemed inapproriate for some markets. This really makes you wonder about censorship and teaching. What happens if we cannot communicate what we see as important and relevant, because we run scarced of saying the ‘wrong’ things. From a business perspective it makes sense, but from a societal stand point its quite problematic, and real shame if one starts to downplay what games can be by imposing limitations on what they can be about. I doubt (hope!!) that a educational text book would avoid mentioning that Jews were wrongly blamed for causing the plague because its considered an inapproriate subject.
I am also planning on using toons created here to illustrate a guide I am writing as part of my PG Cert course … stick around and you’ll see it here first when I get my marks back!
What is also amazing is that (with a little digging and trial and error, as well as reading their ‘toonup’ guides) you can find a link to a high resolution version of the cartoon strip, which makes embedding in posters, presentation, etc even better – and if you wanted to use in a printed document it’s good for that too (or a coffee mug for Father’s Day!).

If, like me, you are a user and fan of Dropbox then you’ll be looking for ways to enhance how you use it. There have been some excellent guides on how to use and abuse it (links below) but here is another great way … Dropbox Forms!
“Create a dropbox form and we will create a folder named Jotform in your Dropbox. When you get a new upload, it will be there instantly. No mess, no BS.”
So, how can I use it? Well, I’m not advocating using it instead of a VLE, but those who don’t have or use their VLE you could set up the form for students / peers / etc to upload files? I’m sure there are other uses beyond this, and some might even be better than Google Docs (?) … if you think of anything, please share using the comments below.
